BitPay Alternatives 2026: Fees, Rails, Fit

Stablecoin Insider compares BitPay alternatives for merchants: NOWPayments, CoinGate, BTCPay Server, Triple-A, Coinbase Business and BVNK on fee shape, custody, settlement, USDC and USDT rails, and KYB. Fees read from vendor pages on 8 November 2026.

Table of Contents

Most merchants searching for BitPay alternatives want one of three things: a lower fee at their volume, faster or more flexible settlement, or wider stablecoin coverage than BitPay's token list. This guide compares six options on exactly those points, with every fee read from the vendor's own pages on 8 November 2026.

BitPay's baseline is simple to state. Its pricing page lists 2% + 25¢ per transaction under $500,000 in monthly volume, 1.5% + 25¢ from $500,000 to $999,999, and 1% + 25¢ at $1,000,000 and above, with higher fees for high-risk industries (BitPay pricing). Settlement runs every business day, paying out the previous business day's payments to your bank or crypto wallet (BitPay settlement docs).

Stablecoin Insider's take: generic gateway roundups, such as Reverbico's BitPay alternatives list or 0xProcessing's own pick, tend to rank vendors without telling you which BitPay pain each one actually fixes. The sections below start from the reason you're leaving, then map it to the provider that solves it, and name the downside you'd be accepting.

Key Takeaways

  • BitPay charges 2% + 25¢ under $500,000 a month and only reaches 1% + 25¢ above $1,000,000, so smaller merchants pay the most (BitPay pricing).
  • NOWPayments and CoinGate both list a 1% standard fee with no fixed cents; NOWPayments is non-custodial by default, while CoinGate settles fiat weekly on its Standard plan (NOWPayments; CoinGate pricing).
  • BTCPay Server is free, open-source and self-hosted, and its original API is mostly BitPay-compatible, which makes it the lowest-fee migration path if you can run infrastructure (BTCPay FAQ).
  • Triple-A and BVNK target stablecoin-first businesses that want fiat settlement, but neither publishes a standard fee, so you'll negotiate (Triple-A; BVNK payments).
  • Stablecoin Insider's position: stay on BitPay if you need NYDFS-licensed, next-business-day fiat settlement and process over $1,000,000 a month; otherwise most merchants will find a cheaper or better-fitting rail below (BitPay pricing).

Why do merchants look for BitPay alternatives?

Merchants usually leave BitPay over fee shape, settlement mechanics, or asset coverage, not over reliability. Knowing which one applies to you narrows the shortlist fast.

  • Fee shape. The 25¢ fixed component hurts low-ticket sales, and the 2% entry tier applies until you cross $500,000 in monthly volume (BitPay pricing). On a $10 order, the fixed part alone adds 2.5 percentage points of effective cost.
  • Settlement minimums. USD settlement by ACH has a 20 USD minimum and lands two business days after issue, while USD wires to banks outside the US carry a 10,000 USD minimum (BitPay settlement docs).
  • Token coverage. BitPay's pricing page lists USDC, GUSD, USDP, BUSD, DAI and EURC among supported tokens; USDT isn't on that list as of 8 November 2026 (BitPay pricing), which matters if your buyers live on USDT rails.
  • Custody preference. BitPay converts and settles on your behalf, so you never hold the crypto (BitPay stablecoin payments). Merchants who want coins to land in their own wallet need a different model.
💡
Stablecoin Insider's take: if your only complaint is the fixed per-transaction fee on small orders, compare total cost at your real basket size before switching. A flat percentage fee beats BitPay on small tickets, but the gap narrows as order values rise.

BitPay alternatives compared: fees, custody and rails

Which BitPay alternative fits your business?

Pick the alternative that fixes your specific BitPay pain, because no single provider wins on fee, custody and fiat settlement at once. Use this decision path before you book any sales calls.

  • You want the lowest fee and can run a server: BTCPay Server, because the processor takes no fee and its original API is mostly compatible with BitPay's (BTCPay FAQ).
  • You want coins in your own wallet without self-hosting: NOWPayments, which sends funds straight to your payout wallet and never holds your private keys (NOWPayments help).
  • You want EU-friendly fiat settlement with plugins and a flat 1% fee: CoinGate, accepting weekly settlement on the Standard plan (CoinGate pricing).
  • You're stablecoin-first and want next-day local currency settlement at enterprise scale: Triple-A or BVNK, with fees negotiated (Triple-A; BVNK).
  • You only need USDC payment links and already bank with Coinbase: Coinbase Business, keeping in mind its payments suite is stablecoin only (Coinbase docs).
  • You process over $1,000,000 a month and need regulated, daily fiat settlement across several currencies: stay with BitPay and negotiate (BitPay pricing).

NOWPayments: best for non-custodial multi-coin checkout

NOWPayments suits merchants who want broad coin coverage and funds paid straight to their own wallet. Its help center lists a fixed 1% fee for payments without exchange and 1.5% for multi-currency, fixed-rate and fee-paid-by-user payments (NOWPayments help).

The homepage advertises 350+ crypto coins and 75+ fiat currencies, plugins, a POS, payment links and mass payouts (NOWPayments). NOWPayments also says eligible businesses can get a custom rate as low as 0.3%, which isn't a standard rate (NOWPayments pricing update).

Downside: in the non-custodial flow, the payment travels through NOWPayments before it reaches you, so network fees apply on more than one hop (NOWPayments help). If you want bank settlement in fiat, you'll be configuring extra steps rather than getting BitPay-style daily bank deposits by default.

CoinGate: best for EU merchants who want plugins and fiat

CoinGate fits merchants who want a flat fee, fiat conversion and ready-made plugins. Its Standard plan charges 1% per transaction with no monthly fee, while Enterprise moves to custom volume-based rates (CoinGate pricing).

Other published Standard fees include crypto payouts at 0.50 EUR + 0.5% and refunds at 0.25 EUR + 0.1% (CoinGate pricing). Settlement can go out in EUR, GBP, USD or crypto, with plugins for WooCommerce, PrestaShop, WHMCS, Magento 2 and Wix (CoinGate checkout). USDC is listed on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base and Optimism (CoinGate networks).

Downside: automatic settlements run weekly on Standard, and faster schedules are an Enterprise option (CoinGate pricing). If you're used to BitPay's every-business-day bank deposits, that's a real cash flow change. USDT also didn't appear in the network list we read, so check it if your buyers pay in Tether.

BTCPay Server: best for the lowest cost and full control

BTCPay Server is the option for merchants who'd rather run software than pay a processor. The project describes itself as free, open-source and non-custodial, with no subscriptions and no transaction fees, and payments going directly to your wallet (BTCPay FAQ).

The migration detail most guides skip: BTCPay's original API is compatible for the most part with BitPay's API, so merchants can move with less rework, and a newer Greenfield API covers all features (BTCPay FAQ). Fiat conversion is only available through plugins (BTCPay FAQ).

Downside: BTCPay isn't a company, so there's no email, live chat or phone support, and you own uptime, backups and security (BTCPay FAQ). It's a strong fit for Bitcoin-heavy merchants and a weaker one if you need stablecoin-to-bank settlement on day one.

Triple-A: best for licensed stablecoin acceptance with local settlement

Triple-A is aimed at businesses that want stablecoin payments without holding digital currency. It says it's a licensed financial institution in the US, EU and Singapore, settles in local currency and operates under SOC 2 Type II controls (Triple-A).

Its stablecoin payments page describes instant confirmation, a locked exchange rate and next-day bank settlement, plus payment links, invoices and payouts (Triple-A stablecoin payments). That's the closest like-for-like replacement for BitPay's convert-and-settle model on this list.

Downside: Triple-A doesn't publish a fee card, so pricing is unpublished/custom and you'll need a sales conversation to compare it with BitPay's tiers (Triple-A).

Coinbase Business is the successor path for Coinbase Commerce merchants and works best if USDC is the only asset you need. Its Checkout APIs create single-use checkout URLs, and funds are auto-credited to your Coinbase Business account (Coinbase Checkout APIs).

Customers can pay with USDC on Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum or Solana, or with USDT on Ethereum, and funds settle to your account in USDC (Coinbase migration FAQ). Coinbase doesn't post a standard rate on the API docs; it shows your rate when you create a Payment Link (Coinbase Checkout APIs).

Downside: this is a custodial, stablecoin-only payments suite, so it won't replace BitPay for BTC checkout. If you're comparing it in depth, read our Coinbase Commerce alternatives guide and the Coinbase migration overview.

BVNK: best for stablecoin-to-fiat at enterprise scale

BVNK suits platforms that want to accept stablecoins and settle in fiat through one API. It lets users pay in stablecoins while you receive EUR, GBP or USD through named virtual IBANs, with hosted payment pages, payment links or a custom API flow (BVNK payments).

BVNK says it supports 130+ countries and holds 40+ licenses worldwide (BVNK), and that most teams integrate in under a month (BVNK payments FAQ). For a deeper rail comparison, see Stripe vs Bridge vs BVNK.

Downside: there's no public fee card, so pricing is unpublished/custom (BVNK payments), and the product is built for platforms and finance teams more than for a small online store installing a plugin.

🧭
Stablecoin Insider's take: if most of your crypto volume already arrives as stablecoins, a stablecoin-native provider usually gives you more networks and faster settlement than a general crypto processor. If most of it is Bitcoin, BTCPay Server or BitPay still make more sense.

What does a switch save at different volumes?

The saving depends mostly on your monthly volume and average order value, because BitPay's fee has a fixed part and a volume-tiered percentage. Here's the processing fee only, excluding network and FX costs, using the published standard rates read on 8 November 2026.

ScenarioBitPayNOWPayments (no conversion)CoinGate Standard
$100 order, under $500,000/mo$2.25 (2% + 25¢, pricing)$1.00 (1%, help)$1.00 (1%, pricing)
$20 order, under $500,000/mo$0.65 (2% + 25¢, pricing)$0.20 (1%, help)$0.20 (1%, pricing)
$100 order, $1,000,000+/mo$1.25 (1% + 25¢, pricing)$1.00 standard; custom from 0.3% (update)Custom Enterprise rate (pricing)

Stablecoin Insider's take: below the $500,000 tier, a flat percentage fee roughly halves processing cost on typical orders. At $1,000,000 a month and above, the difference shrinks to the fixed 25¢, and BitPay's daily fiat settlement can easily be worth that gap. Calculations use the linked rates; your contract may differ.

How do you migrate off BitPay without breaking checkout?

Run the new provider in parallel, switch traffic gradually, and keep BitPay live until refunds and open invoices clear. The checklist below covers the steps merchants most often miss.

  • Map your plugin first. BitPay documents plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento 2, WHMCS and BigCommerce (BitPay plugins); confirm your new provider covers the same platform before you commit.
  • Finish KYB before cutover. CoinGate requires KYC and KYB verification to open a merchant account (CoinGate), and enterprise providers run longer onboarding.
  • Match settlement to cash flow. Compare BitPay's every-business-day settlement (BitPay settlement docs) with weekly or on-request schedules elsewhere.
  • Check stablecoin networks your buyers actually use. If they hold USDT on TRON, filter vendors on that rail; our USDT payment gateways guide covers it.
  • Plan refunds. Crypto payments can't be charged back, so your refund flow has to come from the provider's balance or your own wallet.

If your real job is paying suppliers or contractors rather than taking checkout payments, a gateway is the wrong tool. Read our Request Finance review for a B2B payouts and invoicing alternative.

Stablecoin Insider's verdict on BitPay alternatives

BitPay remains a sound choice for large, regulated merchants that want daily fiat settlement and don't mind paying for it. For everyone else, there's usually a better fit.

  • Best overall for small and mid-size stores: CoinGate or NOWPayments, both at a 1% standard fee (CoinGate; NOWPayments).
  • Best for lowest cost: BTCPay Server, if you can host it (BTCPay FAQ).
  • Best for stablecoin-first fiat settlement: Triple-A or BVNK, with negotiated pricing (Triple-A; BVNK).
  • Best for USDC-only payment links: Coinbase Business (Coinbase docs).
  • Who BitPay still fits: merchants above $1,000,000 a month who value its NYDFS license and multi-currency bank settlement (BitPay pricing).

FAQ

What is the cheapest BitPay alternative?

BTCPay Server is the cheapest because the software charges no processing fee; you pay only for hosting and your own time (BTCPay FAQ). Among hosted gateways, NOWPayments and CoinGate list a 1% standard fee (NOWPayments; CoinGate pricing).

How much does BitPay charge merchants in 2026?

As of 8 November 2026, BitPay lists 2% + 25¢ under $500,000 a month, 1.5% + 25¢ from $500,000 to $999,999, and 1% + 25¢ at $1,000,000 and above, with higher fees for high-risk industries (BitPay pricing).

Can I move from BitPay to BTCPay Server without rewriting my integration?

Often with limited changes. BTCPay says its original API is compatible for the most part with BitPay's API, though its webhooks follow a different Greenfield format (BTCPay FAQ). Test invoices and notifications in staging first.

Which BitPay alternative supports USDT?

NOWPayments lists USDT among its supported currencies (NOWPayments), and Coinbase Business accepts USDT on Ethereum (Coinbase docs). For more options, see our USDT payment gateways guide.

Is there a BitPay alternative that settles to my bank every day?

Triple-A describes next-day bank settlement (Triple-A), and BVNK settles stablecoin payments to EUR, GBP or USD virtual IBANs (BVNK). CoinGate settles weekly on Standard, with on-request settlement for Enterprise (CoinGate pricing).

Should I leave BitPay at all?

Not always. If you process more than $1,000,000 a month and rely on regulated, multi-currency bank settlement, BitPay's 1% + 25¢ tier is competitive (BitPay pricing). Smaller merchants and stablecoin-heavy businesses usually have a better fit elsewhere.
