## Confirm the hash and the contract on the receiving chain

Open the explorer for the chain the wallet actually used, not the chain you meant. Copy the transaction hash and confirm it shows Success.

Then identify the token contract on that transfer. Match the string character-for-character to Circle's published address for the same chain.

If the strings match, you hold native USDC on the wrong chain. If they do not, quarantine the inbound as a wrapper or a clone and do not book it as dollars.

Bridged USDC.e is not Circle-issued. Circle states, on X Layer and by the same split elsewhere, that a separate bridged representation is not issued or backed by Circle.

## Self-custody EVM: switch network, then add the official contract

MetaMask states that a Secret Recovery Phrase generates the same address across EVM-compatible networks such as Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Avalanche. If you or the recipient control that address, the tokens sit on the receiving chain; they are not lost.

Switch the wallet to the network the explorer named. Then add Circle's official USDC contract for that chain so the balance displays.
